Yes, the Helpline is completely confidential.
Every single person on the Family Drug and Gambling Helpline is a volunteer or staff member with their own personal experience of helping someone through addiction – whether it’s drug, alcohol or gambling. Many of our volunteers have a son, daughter, parent, friend or relative who they have supported through addiction. They draw on their own experience to listen, understand, and connect with what you’re going through. After business hours, the phone is diverted to DirectLine, which is staffed by trained counsellors.
We can help you talk through your situation, talk through some coping strategies and connect you with services or programs.
That is completely normal. Many people call us and have no idea where to start. Call us anyway, and we can help you take it step by step.
As many times as you like. We also offer a call back service after your first call can call you at a time that suits you.
Our Helpline is specifically for families, carers and supporters of people experiencing addiction. If you are looking for support for your own alcohol or drug use, you can contact DirectLine on 1800 888 236.
