In 2021, the Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system set a clear vision for mental health reform grounded in lived experience, accountability and independent oversight.
The changes now proposed by the Labor government risk undoing that progress.
SHARC, along more than a dozen organisations including Mind Australia, VMIAC, Tandem, the Health and Community Services Union, National Mental Health Consumer Alliance, Harm Reduction Victoria, Each, VAADA, has co-signed an open letter calling on the Victorian Government to stop, listen, and honour the intent of the Royal Commission.
Lived experience leadership isn’t optional.
“The Royal Commission promised that lived experience would not be symbolic, but that it would be recognised and embedded at all levels. The Entities Bill is a giant step backward.”
– Clare Davies, SHARC CEO
