SHARCs Peer Projects and the Victorian AOD Peer Workforce Community of practice, along with various stakeholders, have worked to develop a strategy for the Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) Peer Workforce in Victoria.

This strategy will be launched with the strategy for the consumer mental health workforce in Victoria and The strategy for the family carer mental health workforce in Victoria.

You are invited to the official launch of Victoria’s lived experience workforce strategies. Each strategy has been carefully considered with members of the lived experience workforce leading the development of these over the last two-three years.

Lived experience workers, their employers, department staff, peak bodies and unions and others are all invited to celebrate the launch of the first such strategies for Victoria. This is also an opportunity to thank and celebrate the hard work and leadership of a number of dedicated lived experience workers that have contributed to the development of the strategies.

Stewardship of the strategies is held collectively by the Centre for Mental Health Learning (CMHL); The Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC); Tandem; the Carer Lived Experience Workforce Network (CLEW); The Self Help Addiction Resource Centre (SHARC); The Bouverie Centre; the Centre for Psychiatric Nursing (Melbourne University); Mental Health Victoria; Victorian Dual Diagnosis Initiative (VDDI) and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Through progressing the actions in these strategies we aim to see:

  • Lived experience work understood, valued and recognised as distinct disciplines;
  • Lived experience workforce development driven and led by people with lived experience
  • Lived experience workers getting access to the same level of structural supports and resources as other disciplines that work in AOD and mental health.
  • Sustainable growth of the LE workforce to meet the needs of consumers and carers.
  • Government, services and other disciplines learning from lived experience leadership, and better meeting consumer, carer and community needs.
